Composing a frame with the sun on Ilford XP2 Super 400
One of my favorite things about shooting on film is being able to shoot with the sun in frame.
Growing up on Dslrs you have always had to make a compromise, do you want the shadows exposed or the sky exposed?
and you can give up on trying to get the sun to show up as a ball and not a blob without the rest of the scene just being a shiluette.
Film has such amazing dynamic range that all DSLRs strive to have, a some can achieve with LOG Color profiles.
But it’s so effortless to get a great exposure and know all the information is there if you exposed correctly.
It really creates an image so close to what your eye sees, I think that is why we’re enjoy it so much.
I think it creates an image close to what you remember when you recall what it looks like.
I shot this driving along a random road and loved how the intersection looked.
If I remember right I believe I shot this at an f/22. I love shooting a deeper focus , being able to see everything in focus adds the effect of capturing a memory to me.
I don’t think people remember moments with “bokeh” or depth of field. It’s most likely all in focus due to everything you look at being in focus.

Wow, that’s a really interesting thought about capturing a moment with deeper focus because it’s similar to how our eyes see things and what it’s like to recall a memory. That really gives me something to think about—thank you for sharing that!

Thanks! Yeah, sometimes when it’s an environment and not a specific subject, I enjoy being able to look around the frame and see everything. Thanks for Commenting!
